Nigerian Army Resource Centre Hosts 61st Monthly Lecture On Public Health and National Security

The Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) held its 61st edition of its Monthly Lecture Series on “Public Health and National Security in Nigeria” on 27th February 2025 at Hall F, ML Agwai Block, Asokoro, Abuja. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Kumshida Balami from the World Health Organization (WHO), Nigeria, and was followed by the presentation of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre Fellowship Award to some deserving and qualified members.

The lecture highlighted the critical link between public health and national security, emphasizing the need for a stronger health security framework to address emerging threats. The event reinforced NARC’s commitment to fostering research-driven discourse on national development and security challenges.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede mni NAM, was the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion and was represented by Major General Ayoola Aboaba. Also in attendance was Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (Rtd.), former Chief of Army Staff and Hounrable Minister of Interior and also a member of the NARC Board of Trustees, who was represented by Dr. Zainab Dambazau. The Director General of NARC, Major General Garba Ayodeji Wahab (Rtd.), served as the host.

The event also attracted a distinguished gathering, including representatives of the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Commandant of the National Defence College, Commandant of the Army War College Nigeria, Director General of the National Youth Service Corps and the Director of the State Security Services.

Other attendees included representatives from various ministries, departments and agencies, security experts, senior officers from the Defence and Service Headquarters, the Executive Director of NARC Consult, members of the academia, senior research fellows, consultants, and subject matter experts.

Fellows of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, senior officers (both serving and retired), participants of the Strategic Management and Policy Studies Course 7/2024, and participants of the Leadership and Strategic Studies Course 3/2024 were also present, alongside members of the civilian staff and other invited guests.
