
Nigerian Army Signals Hold WASA, Showcases Culture and Professionalism
The Nigerian Army Signals on 14 February 2026 held its combined West African Social Activities (WASA) 2025 alongside affiliated formations in Lagos at the Signals Operations Command Parade Ground, Mile 2. The colourful event featured cultural displays, comedy performances, musical renditions, talent shows and a tug of war competition, attracting senior officers, both serving and retired, as well as dignitaries from all walks of life.
In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour (SGOH) and Commandant, Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management, Major General Collins Adetoba, appreciated the Commander Corps of Signals (CCS), for the invitation and warm reception. He described WASA as a cherished tradition of the Nigerian Army (NA) that promotes unity, cultural diversity and shared heritage, while reinforcing peace and national cohesion. He noted that the unity fostered by such gatherings enhances operational effectiveness.
Major General Adetoba commended the Corps for its professionalism, innovation and reliable communication support to operations nationwide, urging personnel to remain adaptive and technologically driven in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) Command Philosophy, which is “To Advance the Transformation of the Nigerian Army into a More Professional, Adaptable, Combat Ready and Resilient Force Capable of Decisively Discharging its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment.” He highlighted the need for advanced communication systems, strong cyber capabilities and inter-agency collaboration in addressing evolving security challenges. He also acknowledged the sacrifices of officers, soldiers and their families, paid tribute to fallen heroes, and thanked the COAS, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (Nigerian Army Medal) for his strategic leadership and support.
Earlier, the Chief Host and CCS, Major General Tanimu Abdullahi, welcomed guests and traced the history of WASA to 1901 under the West African Frontier Force, noting its enduring role in promoting cohesion, esprit de corps and shared identity within the Army. He affirmed that despite demanding operational commitments in 2025, the Corps remained resilient and effective as the communications backbone of the NA. He appreciated families, sister Services, security agencies and the host community for their continued support.
While delivering his vote of thanks, the Chairman Organising Committee, Colonel Anthony Ogbu, expressed gratitude to the SGOH, senior officers, distinguished guests and families for their presence. He particularly appreciated the COAS for his unwavering commitment to troops’ welfare and professionalism. He also commended the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, cultural performers and the organising committee for contributing to the success of the event, concluding with prayers for continued unity and regimental spirit within the NA.
