Nigerian Army Troops Eliminate Top Boko Haram Commanders, Neutralise Dozens In Multiple Operations

In furtherance of ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the North East theatre, troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in collaboration with the Air Component, have recorded huge operational successes against Boko Haram , Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Jamaatu Ahli Al- sunnah Wal – Jamaah (JAS) terrorists in Borno and Yobe States.Between 21 and 22 August 2025, troops successfully foiled coordinated terrorist attacks on Bita and Wulgo in Borno State. During the engagements, eleven terrorists were neutralised, including two top commanders identified as Abu Nazir (Munzir of Juye) and Abu Fatima (Munzir of Koloram). Troops also recovered AK-47 rifles, a cache of ammunition and six motorcycles belonging to the insurgents.

In a related development on 22 August 2025, troops of 21 Special Armoured Brigade, with the support of platforms from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI gallantly foiled a night attack on the Forward Operating Base at Kumshe. The precision air bombardments inflicted devastating losses on the terrorists, with over 20 corpses, including dismembered parts, discovered hastily buried in shallow graves during exploitation. Assorted weapons were also recovered.

Similarly, Sector 1 troops, while conducting offensive operations at Dipchari near Banki Junction in Bama Local Government Area on the same day, engaged terrorists in a fierce firefight, neutralising scores. Items recovered included Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, AK-47 rifles, loaded magazines, rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and motorcycles. Furthermore, on 23 August 2025, Sector 2 troops in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) conducted a long-range tactical operation around Ndoksa general area near Buni Gari in Yobe State. The operation resulted in the neutralisation of additional terrorists as well as the recovery of AK-47 rifles and additional motorcycles.These coordinated operations have further denied the terrorists freedom of action, degraded their firepower and disrupted their logistics within the region.The Military High Command lauded the impressive gallantry and resilience of the troops while urging the troops to sustain the momentum in the face of evolving security challenges.
