
Nigerian Company 4 Celebrates Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary
Nigerian Company 4 of the ECOWAS Stabilization Support Mission to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau (NIGCOY 4, ESSMGB) celebrated Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on 1 October 2025 at its Headquarters in Bissau City.
The Special Guest of Honour, the Resident Representative of ESSMGB, Ambassador Ngozi Ukaeje, in her remarks, conveyed warm greetings and congratulations from the President of the ECOWAS Commission, His Excellency Dr. Omar Alieu Touray. She joined NIGCOY 4 and Nigerians in attendance to commemorate the historic day when Britain handed over the reins of power to Nigeria’s founding leaders.
Ambassador Ukaeje appreciated the presence of members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations at the event. She further commended the Force Commander ESSMGB, Brigadier General Edward Odinya Ojabo, for his exemplary leadership and mentorship of the ECOWAS Force in Guinea-Bissau, as well as the Commanding Officer NIGCOY 4 for ensuring the security of the camp, particularly at night. She also lauded the contingent troops for their outstanding drill and cultural display, which greatly impressed all guests.
She went on to thank the President and people of Guinea-Bissau for their continued cooperation in providing a conducive environment for the Mission to carry out its mandate. Finally, she applauded the Nigerian community in Guinea-Bissau for their hard work and contributions towards strengthening Nigeria–Guinea-Bissau relations.
In the same spirit, the
Charge D’Affaires in the Interim of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Mr Johnson Ogbola Agida in his goodwill message, commended NIGCOY 4 for representing Nigeria with professionalism and discipline in the discharge of their duties in Guinea-Bissau. He urged them to remain exemplary ambassadors of Nigeria by upholding integrity, courage, and excellence—flying the Nigerian flag high not only on the pole but also through their actions. He concluded by wishing Nigeria God’s blessings and congratulating all Nigerians on the occasion of the 65th Independence Anniversary.
The high point of the celebration was a colourful performance by the troops of NIGCOY 4, which featured silent drills, unarmed combat demonstrations, and captivating displays of Nigerian culture and traditional dances.
The event was well attended by dignitaries representing the diplomatic corps, international organizations, officials of the Government of Guinea-Bissau, members of the Guinean Armed Forces, and the Nigerian community in Guinea-Bissau.
