Nigerian Customs Officer Advocates Strategic Border Security At International Conference In Tanzania

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Assistant Comptroller of Customs Sanusi Tasiu Saulawa, PhD, of the Nigerian Customs Service, played an important and commendable role at the recently concluded 5th Ports and Customs/Border Security Week held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Dr. Saulawa moderated a high-profile session titled “Enhancing Seamless Cross-Border Movement Across Maritime, Air, and Land: Balancing Security and Passenger/Trade Facilitation.” The session deliberated on the complexities of maintaining security while ensuring the smooth flow of passengers and trade across borders.

Additionally, Dr. Saulawa also presented an insightful paper titled “The Role of Strategic Management and Inter-Agency Cooperation in Enhancing Border Security Against Illicit Trade in Nigeria.” His presentation highlighted the critical role of inter-agency collaboration and strategic management in addressing the challenges of illicit trade, bolstering border security, and promoting economic development in Nigeria and beyond.

The conference brought together Customs, Immigration, Ports authorities, academics, and other stakeholders to tackle pressing challenges in border security and explore opportunities for collaboration and digitization within the sector.
