Nigerian Dancer Pinki Debbie Breaks Guinness World Record
Days ago, popular dancer and choreographer, Pinki Debbie (real name Odumewu Debbie), set out to beat the 124-hour Guinness World Record for Longest Dance Marathon by an Individual. She did it and now is aiming to set a new, daring record of 150 hours.
The 22-year-old started the journey at The Palms Shopping Mall in Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday, November 17, and she broke the record at 12:00am, November 23. By Friday, November 24, she would have set a record that would be difficult to break.
The previous record of 123 hours 15 minutes was held by Indian dancer, Kalamandalam Hemaletha, who danced from September 20 to 26 in 2010 in India in approximately five days.
Debbie’s effort has stirred major reactions on social media. Fans and celebrities like Bryan Okwara, Toyin Aimakhu and Kaffy Ameh, have already gone to offer their support, and though she had barely had rest since beginning this tough journey, Debbie stays in high spirit.
Other Nigerian artistes who have made entries with their record-breaking performances this 2017 include discjockey, DJ Obi, who broke the 200-hour record for the Longest Marathon Club DJing, and Femi Kuti who currently holds the record for the Longest Note on a Saxophone.
