
Nigerian Navy Commences Bi-Annual Training Workshop For Mid-Level Accounts and Budgets Officers
The Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance Owerrinta has commenced the first edition of the training workshop for mid-level Accounts and Budget (A & B) officers of the Nigerian Navy (NN). The event is scheduled to take place from 16 – 20 June 2025 and is themed “Developing Strategic Accounting Skills for Financial Leadership”, the workshop brings together officers from various ships and establishments for capacity building and knowledge sharing.
In his welcome address at the opening ceremony, the Commandant of the College, Commodore BU Quadri noted that the workshop was organised to equip A & B officers with the advanced skills needed for strategic financial management, improved budgeting processes and sound public sector accounting. He urged the participants to take advantage of the wealth of expertise that would be shared during the workshop. A major highlight of the opening ceremony was the keynote paper delivered by Captain CO Irem titled “Strategic Role of Financial Management in Naval Operations.” The paper explored the nexus between prudent financial management and the attainment of the Nigerian Navy’s operational mandate. This was followed by a presentation on “Digital Tools for Public Financial Management in Nigeria” by Dr James Abalaka, the Director of Funds at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
The 5-day workshop will feature expert-led presentations and practical engagements by seasoned professionals in public sector accounting, experienced A & B senior officers, and subject-matter experts aimed at keeping participants abreast of contemporary trends and evolving practices in public financial management in Nigeria. The workshop aligns with the objective of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, of providing high-quality training for personnel of the Nigerian Navy.
