
Nigerian Navy Conducts Fourth Quarter Route March Nationwide
In the early hours of Saturday, 22 November 2025, all Nigerian Navy Commands, Units, Ships, and Establishments nationwide simultaneously conducted the Fourth Quarter Route March Exercise. The exercise, which is a routine but important component of military tradition, was designed to enhance the physical fitness, mental alertness, and esprit de corps of naval personnel. Beginning with Naval Base Abuja—where the Nigerian Navy Headquarters led the march—the event further demonstrated unity, discipline, and operational readiness across all participating formations as personnel undertook various distances to reinforce their commitment to the defence of Nigeria’s maritime domain and national security objectives.
The participating Commands and Units included:
a. Headquarters Western Naval Command
b. Headquarters Eastern Naval Command
c. Headquarters Central Naval Command
d. Headquarters Naval Training Command and Nigerian Naval College
e. Headquarters Logistics Command
f. Special Operations Command and Nigerian Navy Provost & Regulating School
g. Headquarters Naval Doctrine Command and Naval Dockyard Limited
h. Command Naval Drafting and Nigerian Navy Ship LUGARD
i. Nigerian Navy Ship PATHFINDER
j. Nigerian Navy Ship JUBILEE
In his remarks, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas represented in Abuja by the Chief of Administration Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Jonathan Mamman emphasised that physical fitness and mental alertness remain essential to the operational readiness of naval personnel. He commended the nationwide participation and noted that the routine march forms part of ongoing efforts to build a modern, motivated, and combat-ready naval force. Senior officers across other Commands echoed similar views, reiterating the need for discipline, professionalism, and continuous training.
Significantly, the participation of the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, State Security Service, and members of the National Youth Service Corps in several locations further highlighted the importance of interagency cooperation in advancing national security.
