
Nigerian Navy Flag-Off Ceremony For Exercise Obangame Express 2025
On Friday 9 May 2025, the flag-off ceremony for the annual Exercise OBANGAME EXPRESS 2025 was conducted by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla who was represented by the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral MG Oamen onboard Nigerian Navy Ship KADA. The exercise will span from 9 – 13 May 2025. The aim of the exercise is to bring together partners from the Gulf of Guinea, the Americas, and Europe to evaluate the Nigerian Navy’s capabilities in conducting maritime security operations alongside partner Navies.
In his remarks, the representative of the CNS, Rear Admiral Oamen, informed the audience that the Nigerian Navy will be deploying six ships, two helicopters, maritime domain awareness assets, elements of the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service and the Spanish ship ESPS RELAMPAGO. He added that the focus for this year’s exercise is on combating small arms and light weapon trafficking, as well as anti-narcotics operations.
