
Nigerian Navy Forward Operation Base Igbokoda Conducts Small Arms Firing Exercise and Range Classification
On Wednesday 30 April 2025, Forward Operating Base IGBOKODA conducted its 2025 quarterly Western Naval Command Small Arms Firing Exercise and Range Classification. The objective of the exercise was part of the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian Navy (NN) to enhancing personnel proficiency in weapon handling and marksmanship.
In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour (SGOH), the executive Governor of Ondo State, Honorable Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa stated that the exercise was not just a normal military practice exercise but a very vital strategy of enhancing our national security architecture. Also, the SGOH said he has no doubt in the operational capacity of the Nigerian Armed Forces to tackle insecurity head-on and deal a decisive blow on dissidents, extremists and criminals in our midst. He thereafter commended the Officers and Ratings of NN for the tremendous job the NN is doing in the State.
In response, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Michael Oamen said that training, re-training and team work are an important part of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla’s effort towards repositioning the NN towards efficient service delivery. He disclosed that the exercise was the final phase of the Western Naval Command First quarter small arms firing and range classification exercise which started on the 16 April 2025 in Lagos area. He also said the essence of the exercise was for the Nigerian Navy to sharpen the arm proficiency of personnel. so that, when they are deployed for any national assignment, the authority is sure they are ready and have confidence to take on any adventure.
