On Monday, 7 July 2025, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) QUORRA commenced its maiden Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) training, following its accreditation as a certified Maritime Training Institute in October 2024. The maiden training has a total of 12 participants and will span two weeks, featuring extensive professional training in core areas such as Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Fighting and Prevention, Elementary First Aid & Personal Safety and Social Responsibility. Other topics include Security Awareness for all Seafarers and Electronic Chart Display and Information System.
In his inaugural address, the Commandant of NNS QUORRA, Commodore Benjamin Onalo, expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of Naval personnel, which remains a major reason for the push to accredit NNS QUORRA to commence the STCW training. He also thanked the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command, Rear Admiral Robert Obeya, for providing the guidance that made the commencement of the training a reality. He therefore called on the participants to give their best during the training period, as the certificates they will earn at the end of the course are globally recognised.
