Olamide and Wizkid Nominated Best African Act At MTV Europe Music Awards
For the MTV Europe Music Awards taking place on November 6 in Rotterdam, Wizkid and Olamide will be battling for the Best African act.
Years after critics accused Olamide of stealing Dagrin’s style, the YBNL boss is finally responding to the criticisms that almost overshadowed his career.
“Everything the industry denied me of when I started are coming my way now,” the ‘Bobo’ rapper wrote on Instagram today. “The vultures in the industry tried to kill my shine, saying I stole Grin style. We all love Grin but that was a tough one to overcome, trust me.”
For a long time Nigerian Twitter held polls and conversations about the similarities between Olamide’s kind of music and the late Dagrin’s. And in his 2015 interview with Vanguard, the YBNL boss, who has a penchant for dropping hot songs back to back, said the trials paved way for his success.
Now, he has written a very long note to his fans, noting that he isn’t swayed by awards or money; he loves music.
“I’m at peace with myself. I am happy, living my dreams, bringing my brothers up, repping my hood, my heritage, my culture,” he writes today, adding, “I am magic.”

This announcement came yesterday, just a day after the YBNL boss wrote an emotional note, saying he doesn’t care about awards or money; he deeply loves music and that’s what he is dedicating his career to.
“I am magic,” Olamide penned in his note to fans yesterday.
Well, the organisers of the MTV EMAs obviously believe this, and have nominated him, alongside Naija’s hottest star of the moment, Wizkid, for the ‘Best African Act’ Award.
In addition to Wizkid and Olamide, other artistes nominated for this category include South Africa’s biggest stars – Black Coffee and Cassper Nyovest.
But, will Naija will bring it home?
Check out the list:

Cassper Nyovest – South Africa
