Onne Customs Concludes 2024 with Significant Success, Surpasses Revenue Target

The Nigeria Customs Service, Area II Command, Onne, has concluded 2024 with remarkable achievements, surpassing its revenue target and recording significant seizures of illicit goods.

During a press briefing held on Tuesday, 31 December 2024, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Mohammed Babandede, outlined the Command’s successes throughout the year.

He stated, “I am pleased to inform you that the Nigeria Customs Service, Area II Command, Onne, has recorded another remarkable achievement in our ongoing battle against smuggling and illicit trade.”

“Our vigilant officers and men have successfully intercepted and seized an additional 12 containers (40 feet) of illicit medicine. This is a testament to our unwavering commitment to safeguard public health, ensuring the security of our nation and compliance with Nigeria’s import regulations “, he emphasized.

A breakdown of the seizures includes; 1,721,000 bottles of 100ml Cough Syrup Codeine, 510,000 tablets of 50mg Extra Diclofenac, 7,100,000 tablets of 225mg Royal Apple Tramadol and Tramaking, 3,461 pieces of Sanitary ware fittings used for concealment, 840 pieces of Chilly cutter used for concealment and 153 cartons of TVS rubber with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N20,309,890,800.

Comptroller Babandede highlighted the Command’s significant revenue performance, surpassing its annual target of N618 billion by generating a total revenue of N634 billion, representing 103% of the annual target. “I am glad to inform you that as of this morning, the Command, with the aid of stakeholder engagement, synergy, collaboration, and intelligence sharing, has surpassed the target given by generating a total revenue of N634 billion Naira”, he said.

The Command also recorded notable successes in anti-smuggling operations, seizing 76 containers of various illicit goods, including arms, ammunition, illicit medicine, and other contraband, with a Duty Paid Value of N150,872,551,207.

Comptroller Babandede expressed his gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, for his support and recognition of the Command’s efforts which have significantly bolstered the morale and dedication of officers.

He also acknowledged the dedication and hard work of the officers and men of the Area II Command.

“Let me use this opportunity to especially appreciate the CGC, who in September this year promised to reward Officers and men of the Command for the role they played in the interception of 844 units of riffles and 112,500 pieces of live ammunition. In keeping his promise, a total of eight officers of the Command were given special promotions,” he stated.

Comptroller Babandede expressed his confidence in the Command’s continued success in the coming year, emphasising the importance of stakeholder engagement and collaborative efforts in achieving its objectives.
