
Operation Enduring Peace Hosts Grand Finale Of Football Competition, Flags Off Distribution Oof Writing Materials To Schools In Mangu
The Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), has held the grand finale of its Peace and Unity Football Competition, and flagged off the distribution of writing materials to schools in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. The competition which remains a longstanding initiative of Operation ENDURING PEACE drew dignitaries from within and outside Plateau State.
In his keynote address at the event held on Sunday 19 October 2025, the Special Guest of Honour and General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army/Commander OPEP, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, said the initiative underscored the commitment to strengthening civil-military relations through non-kinetic engagements. The Commander added, that the competition and distribution of writing materials are part of the Operation’s broader efforts to promote unity and lasting peace across Mangu LGA and its environs.
Major General Oyinlola, described sports and education as powerful tools for promoting peace, understanding, and collaboration across societal boundaries. He, encouraged Mangu residents to internalize the important values sports teach in their daily living.
The Commander assured residents that Operation ENDURING PEACE is fully committed to its mandate of safeguarding the lives and property of law-abiding citizens, while criminals will not be spared. The Commander who encouraged the people to embrace peace and live harmoniously with each other, urged them to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest security agency.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander Sector 2, Colonel SO Fagbemi, disclosed that the competition brought together vibrant and able youths from eight major ethnic groups in Mangu. The Sector Commander also maintained, that the competition has provided a unique platform for young people, regardless of ethnic or religious backgrounds to interact and embrace one another in the spirit of unity and sportsmanship. He, assured Mangu residents of safety and security down to the hinterlands.
The Chairman, Mangu LGA, Hon Emmanuel Bala, thanked the GOC for organising the tournament. He pointed out that the tournament was key to the restoration of peace and unity in Mangu LGA. He assured the GOC/ Comd JTF OPEP that Mangu LGA will ensure the peace effort is not truncated by anyone.
The ceremony featured a third place football match between Hausawa Community and Sigdawa Youth, with Hausawa Community winning the match. Also, the final match between Mwaghavul Boys and Pyem Youth FC ended in favour of Mwaghavul Boys after a penalty shootout with 8:7 aggregate. The winning team and others were presented with medals and cash prizes.
