Operation Peace Shield: 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Moves Against Kidnappers In Wukari, Assures Commuters Of Safer Roads

Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have made a decisive move against kidnappers and other criminal elements operating within Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, while reassuring commuters of safer roads across the state.

On 29 January 2026, troops swiftly responded to gunshots heard along the Kasuwan Shanu–Jootar Road, near a Nigeria Police checkpoint in Wukari Local Government Area. Upon arrival at the scene, troops discovered a Sharon bus with registration number LSR 445 XT Lagos, conveying nine (9) passengers. The driver of the vehicle, Mr Abdul Amukama, a 45-year-old male from Makurdi, was found with a gunshot wound to his right hand.

Preliminary investigation revealed that two (2) passengers were forcibly abducted into the bush by suspected kidnappers before the arrival of troops.

Following the incident, troops of 6 Brigade immediately commenced aggressive search and rescue operations within the general area to secure the release of the abducted victims. The operation is ongoing, with troops maintaining sustained pressure on the criminals.

Meanwhile, the injured driver was promptly evacuated to the General Hospital, Wukari, where he is currently receiving medical attention. The affected vehicle has been recovered and is presently in the custody.

Commenting on the operation, the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swiftness and professionalism. He reassured members of the public of the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, urged road users to go about their lawful activities without fear, and called on residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
