
Operational Efficiency: Theatre Commander Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma Visits Headquarters Sector 1
The Theatre Commander Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), Major General Warrah Bello Idris, embarked on his maiden operational and familiarization visit to Headquarters Sector 1 JTF NW OPFY Headquarters 1 Division Nigerian Army, Kaduna, where he was received by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division/Commander Sector 1 OPFY, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, on Tuesday, 12 November 2025. The Commander Sector 1 OPFY JTF Major General Wase presented a comprehensive briefing highlighting the operational successes achieved, challenges encountered, and ongoing measures aimed at sustaining pressure on terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements within the Sector.
In his remarks the Theatre Commander Maj Gen Idris emphasised on the need for a renewed operational drive towards the total eradication of banditry and terrorism across the North West and Nigeria at large. The Theatre Commander further commended the professionalism, dedication, and resilience of Sector 1 troops. He lauded the noticeable decline in banditry and terrorist activities, attributing it to the effective combination of kinetic measures and strong interagency collaboration employed by the Sector. Major General Idris reiterated that the ultimate goal of Operation FANSAN YAMMA is not just to suppress, but to completely wipe out banditry and terrorism from the region. He therefore urged troops to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to the mission while maintaining close collaboration with other security agencies to achieve lasting peace and stability.
The Theatre Commander also cautioned against lapses that could result in the loss of personnel and military assets to adversaries, assuring troops that concerted efforts are ongoing to provide more combat enablers and logistics support to enhance operational efficiency.
Highlights of the visit included interaction with officers and troops, a tour of Sub-Sectors including the Air Component of OPFY at the Air Training Command Kaduna, and a courtesy visit to the Governor of Niger State, His Excellency, Hon Mohammed Umar Bago, where operational issues and areas of concern including the need for an intensified joint operations were discussed.
