Over 21 Terrorists Neutralized In Unsuccessful Attack On Troops In Damboa

In a daring display of strength and dexterity, troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have thwarted what would have been a deadliest attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, neutralising over 21 insurgents and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition. The failed attempt occurred in the wake of Friday, 23 May 2025, when the terrorists targeted troops of 25 Task Force Brigade, Damboa in Borno State.

The gallant troops, bolstered by Close Air Support provided by the Air Component, engaged the terrorists in a fierce and sustained firefight that lasted over two hours. Despite the terrorists’ ferocity, the troops maintained their alertness and composure, forcing the insurgents to retreat in disarray after suffering significant casualties. Significantly, over 21 bodies of the neutralised insurgents were identified after the gun duel.

Regrettably, the ammunition storage facility was hit by a blast during the attack, however, it was firmly brought under control by the military. The troops also recorded minor casualties.

After the mop-up and exploitation operation, the troops recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including:

– 2 x General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG)

– 3 x Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) Tubes

– 1 x Pump Action Rifle

– 9 x AK47 Rifles

– 3 x PKT rounds belts

– 8 x AK 47 Magazines

– 7 x RPG Bombs

– 2 boxes of 12.7mm x 99 ammunition

– One and a half box of PKT rounds

– 20 pieces of 36 hand grenades.

These recoveries further underscore the significance of the military’s victory. The troops’ determination to end terror attacks is unwavering, and their efforts will continue to be guided by their bravery and sacrifice. The coordinated integration between the land forces and air component of Operation HADIN KAI underscores the collaborative and renewed drive of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to jointly defeat terrorism and insurgency.
