Police Announces Ban on Concealment of Vehicle Number Plates
The Nigeria Police Force has banned the concealment of vehicle number plates by unauthorised vehicle users, NAN reports.
The decision was announced as part of a number of security measures in preparation for the governorship and house of assembly elections on Saturday, March 9.
Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba said on Tuesday that the ban was ordered by the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
Adamu gave the order following intelligence reports that some individuals are planning to commit election-related offences during the election process.
The IGP also noted that covering of vehicle number plate is a breach of the Road Traffic Act and other related laws.
Adamu explained that using covered plate numbers could shield the perpetrators of crime and place unnecessary pressure on security agencies in their routine crime prevention and monitoring tasks.
He further directed all Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) and state commands to strictly enforce the restriction order at their various Areas of Responsibility (AOR).
