POLICE DEBUNKS REPORTS THAT THE INCIDENT IN IKIRE IS CONNECTED TO A FARMERS/HERDERS CLASH.

The Osun State Police command has debunked reports circulating on social media that the attack on a family in Wasinmi village, Ikire, is connected to a clash between farmers and herdsmen.

This comes after reports indicate that a farmers/herders clash in Wasinmi, Ikire, had led to the death of six family members.

In a statement by the State’s Police PRO, Opalola Yemisi Olawoyin, discrete investigations have begun and security operatives are carrying out a search for the criminals.

The PPRO revealed the State’s Police Commissioner, Olawale Olokode, who had an on the spot assessment of the incident, stated that gunmen shot a family of six in Wasinmi village, Ikire, leaving one person injured.

He said that security personnel attached to the Ikire division were mobilised to the scene of the incident to foil the attack and arrest the assailants but the criminals fled on sighting the security operatives.

The Police boss, who pleaded with residents of Ikire not to panic but cooperate with security personnel in the State by providing timely information that would lead to the arrest of the attackers,  reassured them of their safety and maximum protection.

He also admonished newsmen to verify information before disseminating it to the public in order to avoid steering up tension in the State.
