President NAOWA Unveils Reform-Driven Agenda At Maiden Executive and General Meetings, Climaxes Two-Day Engagement With Dinner

The President, Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, has unveiled a comprehensive reform-driven agenda aimed at strengthening discipline, welfare delivery and financial prudence within the Association, as she presided over her maiden Executive and General Meetings held on Thursday, 12 February and Friday, 13 February 2026 at the AHQ Command Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja.

As the 25th President NAOWA, Mrs Shaibu described the two-day engagement as a defining moment for purposeful leadership, institutional evaluation and strategic direction. She emphasized that the meetings were not ceremonial gatherings, but deliberate working sessions designed to consolidate structures, promote accountability and reposition the Association for measurable impact nationwide.

At the maiden Executive Meeting, the President reaffirmed that NAOWA remains rooted in service, sacrifice and steadfast support for military families. She acknowledged the enduring legacies of past Presidents, Coordinators and Chairpersons, noting that her administration would build on existing foundations while introducing reforms anchored on four cardinal pillars — Welfare, Sustainability, Empowerment, and Accountability with Structure.

Mrs Shaibu stressed the need to strengthen structured welfare interventions for widows and vulnerable families, promote sustainable initiatives to enhance financial self-reliance, and expand empowerment programmes through skills acquisition and education. She underscored the importance of clearly defined responsibilities, proper documentation and strict adherence to established procedures at all levels.

A major highlight of the Executive Meeting was the presentation of reports by Coordinators and Chairpersons, who gave detailed accounts of activities, achievements and challenges within their respective Chapters. The reports provided valuable insights that guided deliberations and informed strategic resolutions.

The Executive session also featured operational guideline lectures. Mrs Dorathy Maxwell Dangana delivered a presentation on Discipline and Channel of Communication, emphasizing respect for hierarchy and proper communication channels to ensure unity and effective administration. Mrs Florence Godwin Mutkut spoke on Policy, Procedure and Finance of NAOWA, highlighting financial discipline, transparency and strict compliance with laid-down policies as vital to institutional credibility and sustainability.

The reform momentum continued at the maiden General Meeting on Friday, 13 February 2026, where the President consolidated the outcomes of the Executive deliberations and reaffirmed her administration’s strategic direction. She reiterated that NAOWA’s work must remain practical and impactful, touching real lives across formations and commands.

“Our work is not ceremonial; it is practical and impactful,” she stated, urging Chapters to translate resolutions into measurable actions while maintaining unity and regular communication.

The General Meeting featured a series of impactful lectures aimed at strengthening institutional knowledge and promoting holistic wellbeing. Dr Mrs Nafeesat Bisola Dada presented on Meticulousness in NAOWA: A Legacy for Military Spouses, advocating excellence and attention to detail. Dr Olusegun Shoyombo delivered a thought-provoking session titled The Invisible Load: Understanding Stress, Anxiety and Emotional Fatigue in Women, drawing attention to mental health awareness and the emotional burdens borne by women.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Deputy President NAOWA, Mrs Sikirat Alabi expressed appreciation to the President for her visionary leadership and commended participants for their active engagement and commitment to advancing the Association’s objectives.

The two-day event culminated in a dinner on Friday evening, providing an atmosphere of camaraderie and renewed commitment among members. Highlights of the engagements included lecture presentations, interactive sessions, presentation of souvenirs, cutting of the dinner cake, and group photographs.
