President Vladimir Putin Escapes Death, Driver Dead
Russian President Vladimir Putin had a close shave Tuesday as his official vehicle was involved in a deadly head-on crash in the country’s capital, Moscow.
The horrific accident in the centre of the city resulted in the death of long-serving presidential driver and Putin’s favourite chauffeur, Sun writes.
The presidential BMW was travelling on Kutuzovsky Avenue in the Russian capital when a Mercedes veered from the other side of the road, smashing into it head-on.
Putin was not in the car at the time.
Russian media reports that the president’s official driver was killed in the crash.
Putin, who was in China yesterday for a meeting of G20 leaders where he and United States President Barack Obama failed to agree on a peace deal for war-torn Syria, was however not in the vehicle.
Footage shows the presidential BMW travelling along Kutuzovsky Avenue in the Russian capital when a Mercedes veered from the other side of the road and smashed into it head-on.
Medics are said to have arrived quickly on the scene, but according to Russian media, the unnamed victim — who had more than 40 years’ driving experience — died on the spot.
Police are investigating the exact cause of the crash.
