Rector Kwara State Polytechnic Seeks Stronger Security Collaboration With 22 Armoured Brigade
To further strengthen security in Kwara State Institutions, the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engineer Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, called for enhanced cooperation between the institution and the 22 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army.
The appeal was made during a courtesy visit to the Brigade Headquarters at Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.
Dr. Abdul Jimoh commended the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, for his proactive support in tackling cultism and other criminal activities within the school environment.
“I am here today to reciprocate your visit during your assumption of command and to thank you for always coming to our aid. Even with rising security challenges nationwide, you still deploy personnel to assist us, and cultism has been curbed to its barest minimum. I plead that this cooperation be sustained, as your presence deters criminals from our community,” the Rector stated.
He appreciated the Brigade’s efforts in beefing up security around the polytechnic’s vicinity, noting the positive impact on peace and safety on campus.
In his response, Brigadier General Barkins assured the Rector of the Brigade’s readiness to strengthen the existing partnership, stressing the importance of timely intelligence sharing.
“Keeping Kwara State safe is our business always, and my phone line is open for any actionable information that can help us nip criminal activities in the bud.
This aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy. The philosophy aims to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-motivated, combat-ready force capable of discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.
The Commander said, “Security is a collective responsibility. We urge stakeholders to take proactive measures such as limiting late-night movements and exercising caution in public discourse.”
The visit ended with an exchange of souvenirs, signing of the visitors’ book, and a group photograph, symbolising a renewed commitment to collaboration between Kwara State Polytechnic and the 22 Armoured Brigade.
