Sen. Dino Melaye Recall Marred as Petitioners Failed to turn up
Senator Dino Melaye may yet retain his seat in the National Assembly for another year after the ongoing process to recall him commenced with widespread apathy on the path of electorates.
Residents generally shied away from the exercise at polling units in Lokoja, especially in Mopa, and Yagba East LGAs.
It was a similar situation at Amorley frontage, St Mary’s, Crowther, Lokoja club, and Nepa Frontage in Lokoja.
Many of the electorates claim they were not in support of those making effort to recall the senator.
Also, at places where electorates turned up, they encountered logistical problems with some of them not having their names and signatures in the list.
At Ukwo Okoriko in Kogi Koton Karfe Local government, out of 440 electorate that signed the recall form, only eighteen people showed up for the process, while in Mopa there was a complete boycott as of the time of this report.
Felele Oworo Ward 4, one of the biggest polling units in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, reportedly did not record the signature of any petitioner seeking to recall the embattled senator.
In further blow to the process, residents of the Yoruba speaking community in the senatorial district were furious over what they termed ‘fake’ publication of their names on the recall list.
Melaye is presently on admission at the National Hospital, Abuja over a scuffle with the police after his refusal to be transferred to Lokoja where he’s facing charges of criminal conspiracy.
