Senator Bagudu Welcomes Dr. Markus Wagner and Team For A Meeting Aimed At Advancing Nigeria’s Hydrogen Policy Framework
The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu CON, extended a warm welcome to Dr. Markus Wagner and his team during a meeting aimed at advancing Nigeria’s hydrogen policy framework at the ministry of Budget and Economic planning on Friday, January 17,2025.
Senator Bagudu expressed gratitude for the diligent efforts of all staff involved in organizing the meeting, wishing everyone a happy new year.
In his opening remarks, the Minister emphasized the importance of the gathering as a crucial step in aligning national strategies with the support of GIZ. He noted that this meeting serves as an opportunity to review the progress made towards establishing a coherent hydrogen policy while fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors.
“Our role here is one of coordination,” the Minister stated, highlighting the collaborative environment necessary for leveraging resources and expertise from various stakeholders, including NNPC and relevant state agencies. He reiterated the importance of diversifying Nigeria’s energy portfolio, noting ongoing renewable energy initiatives in Kebbi State and the recognition of hydrogen as an integral subset of this transition.
The Minister addressed concerns common among hydrocarbon-rich nations regarding the evolution of renewable energy sectors. “The objective is straightforward. We want to be brought up to speed,” he said, indicating a collective desire to engage all stakeholders in the development and buy-in of Nigeria’s hydrogen policy. He acknowledged the complexities around hydrogen production, particularly in balancing hydrocarbon use while addressing the environmental impacts of carbon emissions.
As an advocate for a structured approach to national policies, the Minister stressed, “Our aim is to ensure that there is a coherent policy framework that aligns with our national development plans.” He highlighted that these plans encompass federal, state, and local government initiatives, emphasizing the ministry’s role in facilitating dialogue and cooperation among various government entities.
Furthermore, he underscored the significance of investor confidence, stating, “What they want to see is a consistent plan.
