The “Soldier First Philosophy” of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, continues to resonate across the Nigerian Army (NA). In Port Harcourt Barracks, it has found a determined champion in Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, Commander, 6 Division Garrison, who has redefined welfare and raised the bar of leadership through bold, people-centred projects under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah.

The COAS inaugurated these monumental interventions that eloquently echo the command philosophy of sound administration, unwavering discipline, and uncompromising welfare. Brigadier General Ahmed’s initiatives have not only elevated living standards but also reinforced operational capacity, underscoring the indissoluble bond between troops welfare and combat effectiveness.

At the centre of these achievements stand two newly constructed blocks of 10-family Corporal and Below Quarters (CBQs) alongside the comprehensive remodelling of seven additional CBQs. These modern and dignified homes embody’s the NA’s resolve to ensure that the soldier’s family, the pillar of his morale, thrives in a conducive environment befitting their service to the nation.

In the same spirit of community renewal, Brigadier General Ahmed remodelled the Cantonment Office, transforming it into a hub for welfare administration, personnel management, and communal engagement. This upgrade has created an efficient nerve centre where soldiers and their families are better served, fostering harmony, unity, and mutual trust within the Barracks Community.

Further affirming his commitment to discipline, anchored on fairness and dignity, the Commander constructed an ultra-modern Guard Room. This facility, crafted in line with global best practices, balances firmness with humanity, ensuring that discipline is maintained with respect to the dignity of every soldier.

Operational readiness also received a decisive boost with the establishment of a new Petrol, Oil and Lubricants dispensing point. By cutting refuelling time and enhancing maintenance efficiency. This facility guarantees mobility, resilience, and swift deployment, which are hallmarks of a mission-ready force.

Each of these projects stands as a bold testament of renewed effort driven explicitly by the COAS’ vision, which pre-ssupposes that “the strength of the NA lies in its people.” Brigadier General Ahmed has translated this creed into tangible reality in Port Harcourt Barracks, proving that when the soldier comes first, excellence follows.
