Strengthening Military-Civil Collaboration: A Strategic Imperative For Nigerian Navy

On Thursday 29 August 2024, the Commandant Naval War College Nigeria, Rear Admiral A Ahmed received the Director general (DG),Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, who delivered a lecture titled “Strengthening Military-Civil Collaboration: A Strategic Imperative for the Nigerian Navy”. The lecture underscored the critical importance of mass media in the strategic dissemination of information.

The DG emphasised that in today’s interconnected world, the role of mass media cannot be overstated, especially in shaping public perception and ensuring transparency in military operations. He called on the participants of the Naval Warfare Course 8, including Members of the Faculty and Administrative Staff of the college to recognise the media as a vital partner in achieving the Nigerian Navy’s strategic objectives. He also highlighted the necessity of fostering robust relationships between the military and civil society, particularly the media and that such collaboration is essential not only for the effective dissemination of accurate information but also for bolstering public trust and confidence in the Nigerian Navy (NN).

He pointed out that, in recent years, the NN has made significant strides in its engagement with the media. The DG provided case studies from global military organisations that have successfully integrated media collaboration into their strategic frameworks and illustrated the benefits of a proactive media strategy in countering misinformation and ensuring the accurate representation of military efforts.
The participants received the lecture with great interest, acknowledging the crucial role of the media in modern military operations.

The Commandant expressed his commitment to implementing the recommendations, emphasising that the NN will continue to strengthen its collaboration with the media as part of its broader strategy to enhance national security.
