
Success In Peace Support Operations Depends Largely On Logistics – Commandant NACOLM
The Commandant Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM), Major General Adewale Collins Adetoba, has disclosed that success in Peace Support Operations (PSO) depends largely on effective planning and deployment of logistics. He stated this during a one week intensive training organized by the Economic Community of West African State (ECOWAS) in collaboration with NACOLM on Operational Level Training in Logistics for ECOWAS PSO.
The training was aimed at enhancing the capacity of logistics officers in the planning, deployment and management of logistics in ECOWAS PSO. Participants were drawn from the Armed Forces, Police and Civilians from within the ECOWAS member States. The 5-day training took place at the Ogomudia Auditorium in NACOLM Moloney Campus Lagos from 3 – 7 November 2025.
Commandant NACOLM further highlighted the need for the implementation of various mechanisms, such as conflict management frameworks and security mechanisms among member states, for the development of skills while performing logistics functions in ECOWAS PSO.
Major General Adetoba also disclosed that the College has introduced 2 additional courses in Leadership and Staff Officers Courses: Senior Leadership and Staff Officers Course (SLSOC) and Junior Leadership and Staff Officers Course apart from logistics Management and Logistics Staff Courses. Adding that, based on its expansion drive, the college is operating 2 campuses in Lagos.
The Commandant expressed his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM for approving the collaboration of NACOLM with the ECOWAS Commission which afforded the opportunity to give the training a befitting setup
He also appreciated the Director, Peacekeeping and Regional Security, ECOWAS for collaborating with the College to ensure the success of the training. He added that the event was a testament of a fruitful outcome that justifies a long journey of untiring efforts and commitment for a memorandum of understanding between NACOLM and ECOWAS
While giving a brief synopsis of the training, the Acting Head of Peacekeeping Operations Division ECOWAS, Dr Sani Adamu, welcomed all participants to the training and appreciated the Commandant for his exceptional leadership quality and comradeship. He enjoined participants to make excellent use of the training facilities and well prepared lecture and exercises they will be exposed to. He expressed confidence that capacity building training will reflect the ongoing changing dynamics of peace and security landscape in the ECOWAS sub-region. He also commended the efforts and expertise of the resource persons who brought their wealth of experience to bear in imparting knowledge on the participants.
The Head of Civilian Component ECOWAS, Mr Bekaye Coulibaly, while giving his remarks reiterated the need to tackle politically and security challenges which he said, are the major threats to human security, socio-economic and cultural development within the region. He also said that the deployment and proactiveness of ECOWAS in the Gambia and Guinea Bissau, among other PSO within the region, have contributed to peace in the continent. He added that the capacity of logisticians from its member state in operational level logistics would foster future success in ECOWAS PSO.
Delivering the closing remarks at the end of the 5 days training, General Adetoba appreciated the ECOWAS Commission for the opportunity granted to the College to organise the training noting that the knowledge gained from resource persons would be put to good use by the participants.
The event was also attended by senior officers, both serving and retired as well as delegation from the ECOWAS Commission.
The climax of the occasion was a cocktail party organised for participants to unwine after 5 days of of intensive training. Certificates and souvenirs were also issued to participants and resource persons.
