Surety Bags 1 Year Jail Term For Forgery

Justice A. A Demi-Ajayi of the Federal High Court, sitting in Benin-City, Edo State on Tuesday, February 11, 2019 convicted and sentenced Ajayi Alfred Ogbemudia (a.k.a) Stephen Ehirobo to one year imprisonment for forgery and provision of false information with an option of fine of N300,000.00 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira only).

The convict was first arraigned on July 5, 2017 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a seven-count charge bordering on forgery and provision of false information. At the point of arraignment, Ogbemudia pleaded guilty to the charges of forgery and provision of false information, pressed against him.

Ogbemudia’s trouble started on February 6, 2017, when he stood as a surety for one Michael Osas Ogbonavbare, a suspect being investigated by the EFCC. Investigations later showed that Ogbemudia presented a document which upon verification by the EFCC was discovered to have been forged.

Justice Demi-Ajayi, therefore convicted and sentenced him to one year imprisonment accordingly.
