The Chief Of Naval Staff Inspects Naval Shipyard Limited and Eribebe Barracks Eleme Port Harcourt

The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla inspected the Naval Shipyard Limited and Eriebe Barracks in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Firstly, the CNS inspected several ongoing projects including the reactivation of some Naval Security Houseboats, construction of ferries for the Akwa Ibom State government, and the completion of locally constructed patrol boats.

In his remarks, the CNS expressed satisfaction with the shipyard’s activities, describing the activities as vital to Nigerian Navy’s operational readiness while reducing reliance on expensive imports, and strengthening Nigeria’s maritime security infrastructure. The CNS also highlighted ongoing dredging efforts to expand the waterfront, allowing larger ships to berth, and the near-completion of a slipway.

Finally, the CNS emphasized the need for greater awareness of the Nigerian Navy’s local shipbuilding capabilities. The inspection underscored the CNS resolve to pursue vigorously the constitutional mandate of the Nigerian Navy regarding security of Nigeria’s maritime domain.
