
The Glitz and Glamour Of The Nigerian Navy Ceremonial Sunset and Awards Night
The Nigerian Navy (NN) Ceremonial Sunset and Awards Night took place on Friday, 12 December 2025, at Naval Dockyard Victoria Island, Lagos. The event was significant as it marked the conclusion of the NN activities for the year 2025, while upholding one of the age-long traditions of navies worldwide. Specifically, the event recognised and celebrated the outstanding efforts of officers and ratings toward the actualisation of the NN mandate throughout the year. The Chief Host was the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal), accompanied by his wife, Mrs Aisha Idi Abbas.
The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Muhammad Matawalle, was as the Special Guest of Honour. Other dignitaries in attendance included the representative of the Governor of Lagos State and Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the Chairman Senate Committee on the Navy, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiandeye and many former Chiefs of the Naval Staff, including Vice Admiral A Aduwo, Vice Admiral VK Ombu, Vice Admiral AA Afolayan, Admiral OS Ibrahim, Vice Admiral DJ Ezeoba, Vice Admiral UO Jibrin and Vice Admiral EI Ogalla. Also present was Mrs Theresa Ibas, wife of Vice Admiral IE Ibas (Rtd), among many other distinguished guests.
It was an evening of splendour, pageantry and refined elegance, as the Ceremonial Sunset blended naval heritage with modern sophistication. The occasion showcased the beauty, discipline and timeless traditions of the naval profession, elements that have continued to captivate admirers through generations. From the meticulously choreographed ceremonial displays to the dignified ambience of the awards presentation, the night celebrated not only professional excellence but also the enduring values of honour, service and camaraderie that define the NN.
