The Strength Of A Nation Is Dependent On It’s Military Capabilities — Rivers Administrator

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retired) has declared that the strength of any nation is dependent on its military capabilities to defend its territorial integrity. He made the declaration at the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Eid-El-Fitr Luncheon with troops in the Field at the 29 Battalion Parade Ground, Port Harcourt Barracks on 31 March 2025.

The Sole Administrator, who was represented by the Secretary to Rivers State Government, Prof Ibiba Lucky Worika noted that the Nigerian Army (NA) is undisputably a globally respected Force that has evolved in warfare dynamics and operational preparedness, despite myriads of economic and security challenges bedevilling the nation.

He reiterated that the current security challenges calls for both kinetic and non kinetic approaches to surmount them. He acknowledged the selfless sacrifices of the troops in protecting the oil and gas facilities in the Niger Delta Region (NDR), stressing that this feat accounted for the improved oil production with positive effects on the nation’s economy.

Meanwhile, the COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, while delivering his goodwill message stated that it is a thing of joy to have the 2025 Ramadan and Lenten season side by side. He added that it is a valuable reminder of the importance of unity, mutual respect and and peaceful co-existence as a nation.

The Army Chief, who was represented by the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, NA, Major General Kevin Aligbe, pointed out that the season was indeed a time for sober reflection on the core values of the NA with selflessness as a cardinal pillar. He urged personnel across board to uphold the spirit of sacrifice and patriotism in the service of the fatherland. He reassured of his commitment to to strengthening the operational capacity, welfare and combat readiness of the troops.

The COAS further reminded troops of the need to remain committed in order to reinforce the trust placed on their shoulders in safeguarding the nation. This, he maintained aligns with the strategic objectives of Mr President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which essentially prioritized national security and sustainable development.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, NA, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah expressed his appreciation to have hosted the Luncheon. He further said the Luncheon was organized basically to appreciate the sacrifices of the troops in the field.

The GOC, who was represented by the Commander 6 Divsion Garrison, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed reaffirmed that Division’s operational activities and successes have yielded the desired effect on the nation’s economy. This, he said is evident in the surge in oil production quota for a relatively consistent period, urging the troops to sustain the trajectory. He also reassured the good people of the NDR of the Division’s resolve to continually conduct operations in line with global best practices and the COAS Command Philosophy.
