The United Kingdom Defence Adviser Visits Naval Headquarters

On Wednesday 25 September 2024, the Defence Adviser United Kingdom, Brigadier T Harper Member British Empire (MBE) and his team paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla at Naval Headquarters, Abuja.

In his remarks, the Defence Adviser stated that the purpose of the visit was to discuss the United Kingdom Strategic Defence Review and other areas of collaboration between Nigerian Navy (NN) and the United Kingdom. He noted that this collaborations have been in the areas of training and procurement of military hardware. He further stated that BMATT and Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service (NNSBS) have been engaged in training and other military Exercises for the past 7 months. The training is aimed at dealing with the threats and challenges faced in the back waters and land operations.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Joseph Akpan in his remarks appreciated the Defence Adviser and his team for the visit. He also acknowledged the numerous support and assistance the Nigerian Navy has received from the United Kingdom and assured the team of NN’s continuous partnership. Rear Admiral Joseph Akpan further extended an invitation to the Defence Adviser concerning the forthcoming Heads of Navies Symposium in November 24, and NN Diamond Jubilee in May/June 2026.
