The Only Thing Working In Buhari’s Government Is Magu’s EFCC – Iwuayanwu

Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu has appealed to Nigerians from all walk of life to buy-in and take responsibility in the fight against corruption.

Magu who was speaking at an interactive session with the media, civil society groups and organised labour in Abuja said every Nigerian has equal responsibility in the corruption fight.

His words: “The time has come when we must increase the tempo against corruption. We must move to the next level, and in the course of this fight, we must not expect commendations from anybody but from God Almighty”, he advised.

He also said that there must be change of attitude if the fight against corruption must be won. “We must not celebrate the corrupt, we must not celebrate corruption, we must be courageous”.

According to him, there is the need to create confidence in the economy so that it will be attractive to investors. “I beg you, expose the corrupt and we would chase after them. We are concerned for the unborn generation. Nobody can deter me”, he assured.

To NLC chairman, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, the fight against corruption should be a priority to all Nigerian.

According him, “Nigerians must be interested in naming and shaming the corrupt. This is a responsibility we in the civil society must pursue”, he promised.

The NLC boss, while maintaining that it is strong institutions and stronger laws that we need in corruption fight, said “we must strengthen our institutions. The Labour will be ready at all time to support the corruption fight and the strengthening of the institutions. We in the organised labour would continue to partner with you. We shall be much more committed this time around. This priority must be scaled up to another level”, Wabara said.

Jaiye Gaskya, a public affairs commentator also said that if the fight against corruption must be seen to be won in years to come, Nigerians must be interested in the 2019 politics.

“I appeal to Nigerians to go out and get the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) as that will be needed to redefine the political landscape, deny the corrupt any chance ahead of the 2019 general elections”.

Dan Iwuayanwu, former Chairman of Labour Party said when Magu was attacked late last year and his staff killed, he thought he would run away from office. “But I am happy you are even stronger”.

He cotinued, “the only thing working for President Buhari and his government is Magu and the EFCC. I have always said that corruption is crime against humanity and the penalty should be death sentence to be executed in the convict’s community”.

Lauretta Onochei, Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, while commending the EFCC Boss for a job well done said as far as she was concerned, Magu is the Chairman of EFCC, not in acting capacity, because he has done so well”, she explained.

To Oby Ezekwezili, covener, ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ (BBOG), since EFCC cannot do it all alone, “we must offer our hands of fellowship to the Commission; we must never allow any kind of distraction against EFCC in terms of inter agency rivalry”.

She said institutional changes and redirection is very important in corruption fight.

Auwal Rafsanjani, Executive Director CISLAC identified media’s role alongside that of Labour and CSO’s as strategic to winning the fight against corruption.

He advised EFCC to parley lawyers, bankers, accountants and auditors in subsequent engagements saying that “they are the tools mostly used to perpetrate acts of corruption”.
