Together, We Can Create A Future Where No Woman Is Left Behind — Mrs Manfon Emekah

The Chairperson, Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), 6 Division Chapter, Mrs Manfon Ejim Emekah has reiterated that the Association will create a future where no woman is left behind. She made this known, while delivering her opening remarks at an event organized by NAOWA 6 Division Chapter to commemorate the International Women’s Day(IWD) Celebration at Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya Badminton Court, Port Harcourt Barracks today, Saturday 8 March 2025.

The Chairperson, who was represented by the Deputy Chairperson, Mrs Saliha further added that the theme for the year 2025 IWD Celebration is “Accelerate Action”, which essentially called on women to move beyond words and take bold and decisive steps towards gender equality and women’s empowerment. She called on women to use the day to reflect on how they can make meaningful contributions to a more inclusive and equitable society, urging them to challenge stereotypes, break barriers and inspire the next generation of women to dream boldly.

Mrs Saliha further reiterated that the IWD is a reminder that significant progress has been made in terms of womanhood. She however said, there is still much work to be done in ensuring that every woman and girl child has the opportunity to thrive and reach her full potentials in life.

In line with the IWD Celebration, there was an awareness walk around the Port Harcourt Barracks Community to raise the level of awareness. There was also a visit to members of Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association members, who are engaged in one business or the other, where some kind of support were provided to support their businesses. There was also a seminar organized with topical issues that are heath related, such as cancer and personal hygiene comprehensively discussed by a subject matter expert, Mrs Amanda Okonkwo.The event also provided platform, where the Deputy Chairperson, Mrs Saliha Ahmed x-rayed the importance of women engaging in businesses, particularly in the barracks environment to be as a support system to their families.

Earlier, as a precursor activity to the IWD Celebration, on 5 March, 2025, the Chairperson distributed some items to the widows within 6 Division area of responsibility, who are business owners to support them in their businesses. She informed the beneficiaries that items distributed were from the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator (Mrs) Oluremi Tinubu, who has been reaching out to the less privilege to support their businesses.

She urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by investing to support their businesses and give it the best they could. The various items distributed included, Disar oil, sandals, designer bags, shoes amongst several others.
