TRADOC Nigerian Army Commences 5-Day Mid-Year Courses Appraisal Conference In Minna: Conference To Review Training, Address Challenges and Align With COAS Command Philosophy

The Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army, (TRADOC NA), has commenced a 5-day Mid-Year 2026 Courses Appraisal Conference at the Headquarters TRADOC NA, Minna Military Cantonment in Niger State, on Monday, 21 July 2026.

The conference, themed *“Enhancing Efforts Towards Achieving Effective and Realistic Training in Nigerian Army Schools and Institutions”* is aimed at reviewing and evaluating courses conducted in Nigerian Army training schools during the first half of the year. The conference will also enable the forecasting of training activities for the Second Half of Year 2026.

Declaring the conference open, the Commander TRADOC NA, Major General Peter Malla, stated that the forum provides a veritable platform to assess progress, address challenges, and review the implementation of Army Headquarters training directives across NA schools and institutions.

He charged participants to present objective appraisals of activities in the last six months, highlight operational and administrative challenges, propose workable solutions, and outline projections towards improving on the standard and qualities of training, for the Third and Fourth Quarters of Year 2026.

Major General Malla emphasized that the deliberations are in direct alignment with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy, which is: *”To Transform the Nigerian Army into a More Professional, Adaptable, Combat-Ready and Resilient Force, Capable of Decisively Discharging its Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment”* where in lies the cardinal pillar of professional military education through training.

He further asserted that the level of implementation of Army Headquarters training directives in schools would be critically examined. According to him, feedback from the conference would be instrumental in guiding future approaches to training and ensuring the realistic actualization of Army Headquarters Training Directives. The Commander expressed sincere appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for providing the resources which made the event possible.

Also, speaking at the event, the Chief of Training (Army), Army Headquarters Department of Army Training, Major General Valentine Okoro, was represented by the Director of Courses, Army Headquarters Department of Army Training, Brigadier General Abia Ndah. Brigadier General Ndah welcomed the Commander and all participants to the conference. He noted that the conference was organized by TRADOC NA in conjunction with Army Headquarters to articulate strategies for enhancing professionalism and performance of personnel.

He added that participants would undertake a comprehensive review of courses conducted in the first and second quarters and forecast training requirements for the second half of Year 2026.

In his welcome address, the Director of Training, TRADOC NA, Brigadier General Godwin Nwamba, welcomed participants drawn from various Nigerian Army schools and training institutions across the country. He disclosed that over 716 courses were approved for 2026 with specific training directives in line with the COAS Command Philosophy.

Brigadier General Nwamba stated that the primary objective of the conference is to identify challenges militating against effective training and to provide practical solutions to them. He charged participants to continue to train Nigerian Army personnel in line with global best practices.

The 5-day conference has in attendance representatives from Army Headquarters, TRADOC NA officers, Deputy Commandants of Nigerian Army Schools, Directors, and Divisional Training Officers from across all NA formations.
