Tragedy as Train Crushes Woman to Death in Lagos

Today, a yet-to-be-identified woman was crushed by a Lagos train while crossing a train track. Eyewitnesses at the scene wonder if she had been engulfed in thought, hence her not seeing the oncoming train until it was too late.

According to Felix Olaitan who shared the news on social media, sources said the deceased was visiting her daughter who recently put to bed, and was seeing a relative off when the tragedy occurred.

“I was on my way to the office this morning when I saw people gathered at Ajayi Farm area of Ikeja. Laying on the floor is the corpse of a woman who wanted the cross the railway but perhaps was carried away and engulfed in thoughts and was crushed by the oncoming train.

Eyewitnesses say she only came to visit her daughter that just gave birth and only saw a visitor off to the express in the wee hours of today.”

This is not the first time similar tragedy would occur along same railway.

Reports confirm that it is cheaper (and faster) to get to Lagos Island from suburbs like Sango and Agege with Lagos trains, hence these trains are mostly filled to the brim, with people hanging on top of the trains. In the past, there have even been cases of people who fell off trains and got crushed. Or unfortunate stories of people who, impatient to wait for the trains to pass, get hurt while crossing the tracks.
