Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army Pays Tribute To Late Chief Of Army Staff Lt. Gen. TA Lagbaja and Other Fallen Heroes
The Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA), on Sunday, November 9, 2025, held an interdenominational memorial service at St. Luke’s Military (Protestant) Church, Military Cantonment, Minna, Niger State, to pay tribute to its fallen heroes, including the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, who passed away on November 5, 2024.
The solemn occasion began with Muslim personnel observing the Juma’at prayers, after which the Christian interdenominational service commenced.
The Commander, TRADOC NA, Major General Peter Malla, urged personnel to remain resilient and prayerful, emphasizing the profound sacrifices made by soldiers who laid down their lives in service to the nation. Quoting Matthew 5:19, Major General Malla called on troops to embrace peace, unity, and unwavering commitment to duty.
In his sermon, the Chaplain, St Luke’s Military (Protestant) Church, Lieutenant Colonel (Rev) Ayuba Usman reminded worshippers of life’s fleeting nature, referencing Ecclesiastes 12:13, and encouraged Christians to live righteously and with fear of God. He offered prayers for the bereaved families and reaffirmed the inevitability of death, urging all to find comfort in faith.
The service was a powerful reminder of the cost of peace and the enduring spirit of Nigeria’s Armed Forces. The Commander described the late COAS as a symbol of patriotism and courage and called on the Christian community to offer prayers for the families of the fallen, seeking divine protection and strength for all serving personnel.
The Nigerian Army has been observing a series of memorial services to mark the first anniversary of Lieutenant General Lagbaja’s passing and other fallen heroes.
