Training Plays A Critical Role In Fostering Interoperability Among Troops – Major General Jamal Abdussalam

The General Officer Commanding (GOC ), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam has underscored the importance of training, stressing that training plays a critical role in fostering interoperability among troops. He made this known at the graduation ceremony of Basic Battle Course (BBC) 9/24 held at 6 Division Training School (DTS), Port Harcourt Barracks.

The GOC, who was represented by the Commander, 6 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed further stated that the training of troops will enhance their understanding of mission objective. This, he maintained will enable Forces respond more decisively to emerging contemporary threats.

He acknowledged the level of seriousness and enthusiasm the participants applied throughout the conducts of the course. He further said, he believed that the troops are fully equipped with the requisite capacity and competence required to combat any security threat they may face in future .

Brigadier General Sani Ahmed informed that the objective of the course was to develop individuals and teams to be physically robust and mentally alert to enhance the battle skills required of soldiers. He added that the training covered clearance operations, and Military Operations Other Than War (MOOTW). He commended, the Division Training Officer (DTO), Lieutenant Colonel Chidi Anaukwu for managing the school effectively, as well as thanked the commanders of various formations and units for their support to the DTS.

Earlier in his address, the Acting DTO, Lieutenant Colonel Chidi Anaukwu, thanked the GOC for the support and provision of the resources to effectively run courses in the school. He added that this has sharpened the combat skills of the troops.

He further stated that the participants were taken through rigors of training, climaxing with a bush exercise held at 5 Battalion, Elele Rivers State. He also added that the course had two officers and 24 soldiers drawn from various formations and under within 6 Division Area of Responsibility. The participants were exposed to realistic, combat focused trainings, that has enhanced their physical and mental alertness, he added.
