Training Will Provide Platform For Financial Best Practices — Army Chief Of Accounts and Budget

The Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army), Major General Adetokumbo Fayemiwo, has maintained that training provides a platform for financial best practices. He made this known while declaring open a 3-Day 6 Division Finance and Accounts Training Week at Lieutenant General F Yahaya Badminton Court, Port Harcourt Barracks.

Major General Fayemiwo who was the Special Guest of Honour, was represented by Major General Samson Jiya, the Group Managing Director, Nigerian Army Welfare Limited by Guarantee. The CAB (A) stated that the Training Week will provide a good platform for updating personnel on contemporary government financial policies.

The theme for the training week was “Personnel Capacity Development: A Panacea to Proactive and Efficient Financial Service Delivery,” which he said will enable financial best practices and their implications on accounting for funds in the NA. He added that in the discharge of their duties, personnel will conform with extant regulations and remain professional in their conduct as military personnel.

He stressed that the importance of training can not be over emphasized, giving the fact that training is one of the pillars of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja’s command philosophy.

While delivering his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division Nigerian Army Major General Jamal Abdussalam reaffirmed his utmost commitment in ensuring that the Division continues to guarantee the security of lives, properties and safeguarding critical national installations within the Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR). He further maintained that the Division will continue to prioritize training, especially since it is one of the cardinal pillars of the COAS’ command philosophy. He added that it is through constant training that the Division has collectively achieved and would continue to achieve the COAS’ command philosophy.

Major General Jamal used the medium to appreciate the doggedness and unwavering commitment of personnel under command in the face of daunting security challenges in the South South. This he said is highly impressive, as evident in the recently released data from the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission which indicates growth in the nation’s crude oil output from 1.185 barrels per day in December 2023 to 1,281,478 million barrels per day for the month of April 2024. This the GOC said was possible due to the reinvigorated operations geared towards zero tolerance for illegal activities by the command.

Major General Abdussalam appreciated the CAB(A) for finding time to attend the 6 Division Finance Training week, while he assured him that the Division will continue to support the Nigerian Army Finance Corps. He also commended the Commander 6 Division Finance, Col Danjuma Mohammed, for his pragmatic leadership, which brought to fruition the well packaged training week.

The training week had several lectures presented by resource persons. These included effect of drug and substance abuse on operational efficiency of NA personnel, Innovative approaches to rendition of accounts: effects on establishment of sustainable standards, the role of personnel in document security and understanding Armed Forces of Nigeria social media policy: Imperative for Nigerian Army Finance Corps personnel amongst others.
