Troops Of Operation Whirl Stroke Strike Terrorist Enclave In Benue, One Terrorist Neutralized, Weapon Recovered

Troops of Sector 1 under Operation WHIRL STROKE have intensified confidence-building and fighting patrols across parts of Benue State, recording a significant operational success following the destruction of a terrorist enclave and the neutralisation of one terrorist in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.

The operation was conducted on 9 February 2026 after credible intelligence was received regarding the activities of suspected terrorists at Kumeh Village in Katsina-Ala LGA. Acting swiftly on the report, troops mobilised to the general area in order to intercept and neutralise the threat.

Upon arrival at Kumeh Village, the troops made contact with the terrorists, leading to a fierce firefight. During the encounter, one terrorist was neutralised, while others fled the scene under pressure from the advancing troops. The decisive action taken by the soldiers effectively disrupted the criminal network operating within the area and dismantled the identified enclave.

A thorough search of the location resulted in the recovery of one G3 rifle, one G3 magazine, one AK-47 rifle magazine, twelve rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition, and six rounds of 7.62mm x 39 ammunition. Other items recovered included a vehicular radio and a camouflage vest amongst other sundry items. Troops further exploited the surrounding area; however, no additional threats or suspicious items were discovered.

The Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the gallant troops for their courage, professionalism and dedication in the execution of the operation. He noted that deserving personnel would be recommended for appropriate recognition in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy of rewarding excellence and bravery in service.

Major General Gara also expressed appreciation to members of the local community whose timely and credible information facilitated the swift response and ultimate success of the mission. He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation WHIRL STROKE to sustaining aggressive patrols and strengthening collaboration with residents in order to rid the region of terrorist elements and restore lasting peace.
