Operatives of the Nigerian Police Command in Yobe State have arrested two principal suspects in the kidnapp of a three-year old boy in Potiskum. The under aged suspects are aged 12 and 14.
The Police Public Relations Officer of Yobe State Command, ASP Dungus Abdukarim disclosed this to journalists in Damaturu on Tuesday.
Abdulkarim said to a bewildered audience that the “The victim, aged three, was kidnapped and later released by his assailants after they collected N50,000 ransom. The police apprehended two principal suspects. The first one is 14-years-old while the second suspect is aged 12. The third suspect is on the run.”
The Police scribe declined to either parade or mention the names of the suspects for legal reasons. He however said that the Police are on the heels of the third and fleeing suspect. He also stated that investigations into the crime has commenced in earnest.
In a related development, the Police spokesperson announced that at about 0700hrs on October 1, one Nafisa Saleh was reported to have been kidnapped on her way to a hospital in Damaturu.
He said: “Investigations later revealed that Saleh the presupposed victim, turned out to be the mastermind of her own abduction for ransom from her husband and family members”.
The Police spokesman said further investigations led to the arrest of a certain Goni Modu and Umar Mai Gudusu, both of Dadinge Village, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe.
The State Commissioner of Police, Yahaya Abubakar however adviced members of the public to report all criminal activities and co-operate with security agencies at all times, as security is too important to be left to the Police and other security agents alone.
