United In Purpose, Honouring Sacrifice and Excellence – Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa
The Honourable Minister of Defence (HMOD), General Christopher Gwabin Musa has reaffirmed the power of unity in safeguarding Nigeria’s security, declaring that “When we put our hands together, there is no force we cannot overcome.” He made this assertion at the 2026 Armed Forces Celebrations and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) Gala and Award Night held at the State House Conference Centre on 13 January 2026. The event was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General OO Oluyede, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, other Service Chiefs, senior military leadership, and distinguished guests. The HMOD noted that the gathering reflected a shared national commitment to honouring service, sacrifice, and excellence in defence of the nation.
In his address, the HMOD paid solemn tribute to fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty, while celebrating serving personnel whose courage, resilience, and unwavering dedication continue to secure the peace. He congratulated award recipients, describing their honours as symbols of professionalism, gallantry, and commitment to duty, many achieved quietly in the line of service. He also extended heartfelt appreciation to the families of fallen heroes and veterans, acknowledging their silent sacrifices and reaffirming that the legacy of their loved ones remains permanently etched in the nation’s history.
Highlighting security as the foundation of national development under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the HMOD noted that sustained defence reforms, enhanced capabilities, improved welfare, and strengthened joint operations across the Armed Forces, working closely with other security agencies, are yielding positive results across air, land, and maritime domains. As he formally declared the Gala and Award Night open, the HMOD called on all stakeholders to renew their collective resolve to build a more professional, united, and mission-ready Armed Forces that Nigerians can trust and be proud of.
