The Nigeria Police has confirmed that three of its officers, including a Chief Superintendent of Police, Ben Ajide, lost their lives on Tuesday during a violent attack on security operatives by hoodlums in Essien Udim local government area of Akwa Ibom state.
Recall we reported on Tuesday that hoodlums attacked policemen and soldiers on a peacekeeping mission in Akwa Ibom and burnt their operational vehicles.
Reacting to the incident, the state command’s Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon said the cause of the attack is unknown.
In a statement titled, ‘Unprovoked attacks on Security Officers,’ MacDon revealed the Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, was saddened by the attacks and killing of police officers who were maintaining peace in the state.
“Whereas the remote and immediate causes of these unprovoked attacks are unknown, a discreet investigation is on the way to unravel the same and seek a lasting solution,” he added.
As the police continue to investigate the motive behind the attack on the security operatives, the Akwa Ibom Police Command has appealed to the public to volunteer useful information that would lead to the arrest of those responsible for the attack.
