US Pledges More Support For EFCC

The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, has reiterated his country’s support to the fight against corruption and good governance in Nigeria

Symington made this known on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 during a courtesy visit to the Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, at the Commission’s new Head Office, Jabi, Abuja.

The Ambassador stressed that his country was commited to providing the needed support for Nigeria’s foremost anti-graft agency, the EFCC, in its efforts towards eradicating all manners of corruption that have bewildered the country .

The US ambassador gave reasons for his visit, stressing that Nigeria is strategic to the future of the United States of Ameria, USA. He also said it was important for every country to build the confidence of its people, through anti-graft agencies like the EFCC.

He encouraged the Commission to continue the good works its doing, and continue to rid Nigeria of corruption, economic and financial crimes.

Symington admonished the agency not to despair but continue its good work to make the agency a world class and respected institution like the FBI of the United States.

In his remarks, Magu said: “when we started the EFCC, the people never thought that we will go far, untill we started raiding the places and arresting the untouchables. Then, we drew the attention of all including Americans. It was then everybody and the government took us serious and we started gaining supports”.

He thanked the USA government for all the supports accorded the Commission especially in the area of trainings of the Commission’s staff.

The Ambassador was later taken on a tour of the facilities at the new Head Office.
