WASA 2024: Adamawa State Governor Commends 23 Brigade For Enhancing Security and Unity In The State
The Executive Governor of Adamawa State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has applauded the 23 Brigade of the Nigerian Army for its vital role in maintaining security and fostering unity among security agencies within the state. The commendation was delivered during the 23 Brigade West African Social Activities (WASA) 2024, held on 18 January 2025 at the 232 Battalion Parade Ground, Gibson Jalo Cantonment, Jimeta-Yola.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, Governor Fintiri expressed gratitude for the troops’ unwavering commitment and courage in tackling the state’s security challenges. “The 23 Brigade has demonstrated exceptional resolve in fulfilling its constitutional mandate, ensuring relative peace in Adamawa State and its environs. Your achievements in combating crime and restoring safety are commendable,” the Governor stated. He also acknowledged the Brigade Commander’s efforts in promoting synergy and collaboration among security agencies operating in the state.
Governor Fintiri further assured the Brigade of the state government’s continued support for ongoing operations and other initiatives requiring its intervention. He encouraged the troops to remain focused, proactive, and professional in their duties.
In his welcome address, the Commander 23 Brigade, Brigadier General PK Zawaya, highlighted the Brigade’s successful execution of its 2024 training objectives with dedication and professionalism. He noted that their sustained operations within the Brigade’s area of responsibility had significantly reduced security threats and fostering public confidence.
Brigadier General Zawaya reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to maintaining its momentum, stating, “We will continue to discharge our constitutional responsibilities with professionalism and enthusiasm. The positive impact made within Adamawa State will be sustained and enhanced.”
He expressed gratitude to the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General AE Abubakar, for his unwavering support and to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen OO Oluyede, for his exemplary leadership and strategic guidance. He also extended his appreciation to Governor Fintiri for his steadfast support and collaboration with the Brigade.
The event also featured cultural displays by troupes from across the country, showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, alongside activities such as tug-of-war contests, award presentations to outstanding soldiers, comedy performances, the beating of the retreat, and the lighting of the bonfire.
Soldiers who excelled during the 2024 operational and training year were recognized for their exceptional performance, with Brigadier General Zawaya encouraging them to maintain their standards of excellence.
