WASA 2024: Governor Sule Commends Army’s Resilience Towards Peace, Unity, Donates N20m To Furnish and Deploy Teachers To Army School

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has commended officers and men of the Nigerian Army for the doggedness and resilience in the collective determination to ensure security and peaceful coexistence in the country.

Governor Sule gave the commendation while speaking as the special guest during this year’s West African Social Activities (WASA) which held at the 4 Special Forces Fitness/Sports Centre, Doma Barracks in Doma Local Government Area on Saturday.

The Governor noted with satisfaction that the event occasion presented an opportunity to appraise the role of security agencies in maintaining law and order, stressing also the significance of acknowledging the participation of the Nigerian Army in peacekeeping missions across the globe, leading to victories that are already recorded and documented.

According to him, though the outgone year was replete with challenges, the Nigerian armed forces in collaboration with sister security agencies, have remained resilient thereby able to surmount challenges particularly in the North Central, which led to huge successes in Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large.

He attributed the feat on the collective dedication and sacrifice of the security personnel deployed to the state, in their quest to provide adequate security across the country.

While noting that such achievements were not without hitches as some of the gallant officers paid the ultimate price in the service of the nation.

He therefore condoled with the families of the gallant soldiers that lost their lives on the course of duty.

“Once again, I wish to applaud your doggedness and resilience and urge you to sustain the tempo for peaceful and harmonious coexistence among the diverse nationalities here in Nasarawa State and the country at large,” the Governor said.

Governor Sule pointed out that celebrations such as the Nigerian Army social activities, are but veritable platforms that brings together the rank and file and indeed all the families of soldiers to continue to foster espirit de corp among the troops.

“It’s expected that this event will strengthen the bond of togetherness and will serve as a panacea for purposeful leadership, unity, peace, and security of your regiment in particular and the country in general,” he said.

To this end, he announced a donation of twenty million naira on behalf of the government and people of Nasarawa State, just as he promised to furnish and deploy newly recruited teachers to the army children and command secondary schools located within the Doma barracks.

He commended the Nigerian Army for establishing a school within the barracks that would serve not only their children but the entire community hosting the barracks.

“On our own part as a state, I want to promise that we will furnish that school once it’s completed. In addition, it’s coming just at a time when we are employing 4,700 teachers in Nasarawa State. We will be able to deploy some teachers to this school. And there is also a secondary school attached. We have just concluded the employment of 1,000 secondary school teachers and I will ask our people from SUBEB, as well as Teachers Service Commission to come and take a look and see what they can do on this,” he added.

Earlier in a welcome address, Commander of the Nigerian Army 4 Special Forces Command, Doma, Major General Hilary Nzan, traced the history of the WASA to colonial times, which has transformed into a forum through which officers and soldiers socialize and celebrate after an all year routine regimental life in a relaxed atmosphere where they can interact and enjoy the diverse cultural heritage of Nigeria.

Major General Nzan said the tradition was upheld after Nigeria’s independence to commend the confidence of soldiers and foster espirit de corp amongst them.

He used the opportunity to appreciate the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, for upholding one of the pillars of his command’s philosophy, hinged on sound administration of the troops for a highly motivated force.
