We Have Made It A Priority To Support NAOWA GOC Says As He Hosts’ NAOWA President, Mrs Femi Oluyede
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam has said that since he assumed command, he has made the support to the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), a priority. He made this known when the President, NAOWA, Mrs Mernan Femi Oluyede, paid him a maiden visit at Headquarters, 6 Division, Port Harcourt 17 January 2025.
Speaking further, he reiterated that a lot had been achieved by NAOWA in 6 Division, which he said perfectly aligns with the vision of the NAOWA President. He said the Division had upgraded all the NAOWA schools to the best standards you can get anywhere in the state. The establishment of NAOWA College is a welcome development. He said hitherto only one secondary school existed in the barracks, and the community is large. The NAOWA College, he said, will provide options for personnel in the barracks.
The GOC said, “In pursuant of the welfare of personnel, the Division has also subsidized school fees, books, and uniforms for the wards of personnel. He reassured that the Division will continue to support NAOWA and Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association (NASWA) in capacity building, which he said a lot of families have benefited. This is in addition to making the barracks environment conducive for the inhabitants. The barracks has sporting facilities such as standard swimming pool, badminton court as well as an ultra modern supermarket that has brought shopping experience to the doorstep of personnel and their families, without having to traverse the city centre of Port Harcourt. He maintained that the Division will continue in that trajectory in sustaining the support for NAOWA and NASWA to succeed.
Earlier, President NAOWA, who was represented by Mrs Bilkisu Ibrahim, thanked the GOC for the warm reception accorded her and her entourage. “Your unwavering support to NAOWA programmes has fostered an environment where efforts to enhance the welfare of the officers’and the broader community can thrive.’ “Equally impactful, the dedication of the Chairperson, 6 Division Chapter, Mrs Maryam Abdussalam. Her exceptional contributions have led to significant milestones, and her accomplishments reflect her passion, commitment, and unwavering support you provide. “
Mrs Ibrahim highlighted the vision of the 24th NAOWA President, which is “Enhancing humanity through and steadfast commitment to unity, service and the presentation of enduring legacies.” This vision drives her in her efforts to improve NAOWA installations, upgrade facilities, and expand charitable initiatives to ensure lasting impact. It is in alignment with that that the national executive committee visited Port Harcourt for the commissioning of NAOWA College Port Harcourt Barracks.
