We Must Recover Stolen Assets – Magu
The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Ibrahim Magu has identified asset recovery as one of the most complex job in the fight against corruption. Magu who spoke through the Zonal Head of Kano Zone, Akananiyene Ezima, also said that as tedious as it is, stolen assets must be recovered because it is our common wealth. Magu was speaking in a welcome address during the 2019 Anti-corruption rally held in Kano to commemorate the 3rd African Anti-corruption Day with the theme “Walk against Illicit financial inflows”.
While commending the existing collaboration between EFCC and other agencies, Magu said that there is also need to strengthen international corporation. “The heads of the anti-corruption agencies persistently sought for the collaboration of the global community in repatriating these stolen assets and there is need to strengthen international corporation among anti-corruption agencies for purposes of developing Africa’s common framework on asset recovery.” he said.
“The time is now for Nigerians of all ramifications to stand up and fight this cankerworm to a standstill. As it is rightly put by President Muhammadu Buhari that if we don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria. And we are aware that the fight against corruption is one of the major plans of the present administration”. He added.
