We Will Continue On The Trajectory Of Mutual Collaboration — GOC Assures FRSC Sector Commander

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam has today 20 August 2024 assured the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS6.1, Rivers Sector Command, Corps Commander Inyang E. Umoh of continuity in the trajectory of mutual collaboration between the Division and the FRSC. He gave the assurance, when the newly posted in Sector Commander paid him a median visit at Headquarters,6 Division, Port Harcourt Barracks.

Major General Abdussalam stated that NA and FRSC have had a long history of collaboration, adding only recently the Division trained 29 soldiers as drivers for twelve weeks, at the Division’s Training School. This he averred, was brought to fruition through the critical role FRSC has played “We couldn’t have done that without the support and assistance of FRSC”, “We also secured drivers licence for our personnel and their families, through the support of the FRSC”. This, the GOC said cannot be taken for granted.

The GOC thanked the Sector Commander and reassured him that collaboration with other security agencies is a mandate given by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, as aptly captured in his command philosophy, which is “To transform the NA into a well trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment”. The jointness environment, clearly connotes working with other security agencies, he maintained. He also assured that the collaboration will foster smooth working relationship with other security agencies within the Division’s Area of Responsibility. The FRSC, he eulogised is one of those security agencies that have maintained professionalism at all time.

Earlier, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Inyang Umoh thanked the GOC for the support and collaboration the Corps is enjoying from NA, most especially from the Headquarters 6 Division NA. He added there is no way you can talk about FRSC without the NA.

Speaking further, Corps Commander, Umoh stated that the Nigerian Corps of Engineers was the first to organise a road safety campaign to road users in 1972. This was prior to the establishment of the Corps in 1988. The new Sector Commander further reiterated that the Corps cannot do or write its history, without the NA. He solicited that the Division should continue to support the Corps in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities. “We need the support of critical stakeholders, the NA is a grand stakeholders in road safety”.
