‘We’ll Host Best Ever Aiteo Cup Final – Okowa

The chairman of Delta Sports Commission, Tony Okowa has said that Wednesday’s Aiteo Cup final at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, would go down in history as one of the best ever in the country.

Heavyweights of the Nigerian league, Rangers International of Enugu will clash with Kano Pillars in this year’s final.

“We will use this Aiteo Cup final to showcase our rich sports culture to the entire world as we did during the African Senior Athletics Championship in August. The stadium is wearing a new look now, and we are ready,” Okowa said.

Okowa’s declaration came a day after an official of Rangers supporters club said that playing the final in Asaba would be like playing in their ‘home ground.’

Tomorrow’s final has history riding on it as Enugu Rangers had lost in the finals on four different occasions – their last title (formally known as FA Cup and Federations Cup) as far back 1983.

While Kano Pillars played in their last finals was far back 1991, when they lost to El-kanemi warriors.

Tomorrow’s Aiteo’s Cup final, which is the first major soccer competition inside the complex, is expected to attract a large crowd of football enthusiasts from neighbouring Onitsha, Akwa, as well as Owerri and Enugu.

Bigwigs of the Nigerian Football Federation, including president Amaju Pinnick and LMC boss Shehu Dikko, are expected to grace the event.
